There was a good two months straight that I would wake up and put this record on before I did anything else. I was just addicted to how great this song is, it wasn’t until much later that I would learn what the song was actually about.

Written in 1977, “We Almost Lost Detroit” serves as commentary to the 1966 near-meltdown of the Enrico Fermi Nuclear Power Plant that almost took Monroe, Michigan off the map. In 1979 after the Three-Mile Island Accident in Pennsylvania, Gil Scott joined the organization MUSE (Musicians United for Safe Energy) and performed at the No Nukes concert series at Madison Square Garden put on by MUSE. Heron’s performance of “We Almost Lost Detroit” was included in the CD that highlighted the performances at No Nukes.

It’s also no secret that this song has been sample many times over in hip hop production. Blackstar fans will notice something familiar in the first 30 seconds, Common fans will have to wait til the second verse. Music fans of all kind should just listen to the song. Preferably, in the morning. :)

Rebirth Delayed (AGAIN)

The long-awaited (and long-delayed) rock-influenced album from Lil Wayne has been pushed back yet again to Feb. 1, around the time that he’ll be sentenced for attempted gun possesion Rebirth, the follow-up to the triple platium Tha Carter III was initially set to be released April 7th of this year, but Wayne’s label hasn’t found a hit with any of the tracks that have leaked.
Wayne has stated that Tha Carter IV is scheduled to be released next year, but he didn’t want it to immediately follow Tha Carter III. It may have to, though, because it looks like Rebirth may never see the light of day. welp! just stick to rap weezy rock isnt for you.
